Simple Desk Organizer Build

See how I turned basic wood scraps into a desk organizer that keeps tools tidy and workspaces clutter-free.

Today’s chaso creation is a simple desk organizer made from leftover wood pieces, a few screws, and a little glue. I wanted something sturdy enough to hold pens, drill bits, tape, and small items that usually end up scattered across the table. The best part of this build was using materials I already had on hand, which kept the project budget-friendly and easy to repeat.

I started by measuring the compartments I needed, then cut the wood into a base, back panel, and dividers. After sanding the edges smooth, I dry-fitted everything to make sure the sections would sit evenly. Once the layout looked right, I assembled the pieces with wood glue and small brad nails. A quick clamp helped keep the organizer square while it set. For a clean finish, I wiped it down and added a light coat of clear sealant so the wood would resist everyday wear.

If you enjoy practical DIY builds, this is the kind of project that makes your space feel more organized right away. It also gives you a great chance to test out the tools and supplies you already own, or compare new ones before buying. I’ll link the saw, sander, glue, and finishing products I used so you can replicate the build easily. Small projects like this are ideal for a home hobby shop because they are useful, quick to finish, and perfect for turning everyday clutter into something functional.
